“The recruiting process is so personal that it is guaranteed to be a different experience for everyone. This is why I plan to take a personal approach to assisting gymnasts and their families through the recruiting process. No one has the same background or story, and I think the individual stories of these athletes is what will help them pave their path, stand out from the crowd, and ultimately find their perfect fit.” ~Stacey Moreno (Founder of iAdvise College Recruiting)
Stacey with her knowledge and skill set has created iAdvise College Recruiting, a personal advising service for potential student athletes and their families who want guidance through the entire recruiting process- start to finish! Her mission is to match potential student athletes to the perfect college or university for them. Stacey has a variety of professional and personal experiences that have developed the skill set necessary to effectively advise her clients. Her life as a gymnast, coach, educator, and mentor of youth athletes equates to the perfect combination for her role as advisor. This is not to mention her experience as a parent of two athletes who went through the recruiting process and were recruited by Division I programs. Her story begins as a young student athlete herself.
Stacey was raised in New Hampshire, and that is where she began her competitive gymnastics career as a club and high school gymnast. Wanting to continue competing gymnastics, Stacey walked on to the University of New Hampshire’s Womens’ Gymnastics team in 1992, earned an athletic scholarship her senior year, as well as Academic and All American honors. Stacey holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Biochemistry.
Post graduation, Stacey continued to remain involved in the sport she loves by coaching and choreographing all levels of competitive gymnastics in New Hampshire as well as in North Carolina. In addition to coaching gymnastics, Stacey’s passion for working with children led her to education. She taught middle school science, and even homeschooled her two daughters for two years.
Stacey eventually found a niche at Bull City Gymnastics as a Learning Coach for 7 years. There she created a unique learning experience for competitive gymnasts, facilitating a positive learning environment for student athletes from grades 3-9. This is where Stacey honed her communication and leadership skills while working with students in person day to day, and acting as liaison with students, parents, online teachers and coaches. This unique “gym school” experience allowed Stacey to build a rapport with the gymnasts outside of the gym setting, an experience proving to be valuable as a college recruiting advisor. One of Stacey’s best assets is how she builds relationships with those that she works with. In total, Stacey has over 25 years experience working with student athletes!
In addition to her professional work, Stacey experienced college recruiting first hand with two children. Her son, Koen was first recruited by East Carolina University, and then was drafted out of high school by the Chicago Cubs. Leah has signed her commitment to the University of New Hampshire for Women’s Gymnastics. As the saying goes, “Life is the best teacher”, and there is no doubt that going through the recruiting process as well as through an MLB draft was indeed an education. Seeing and feeling the trials and tribulations of the recruiting process enables Stacey to put herself in her clients shoes, motivate and encourage.
Over time, Stacey discovered just how many parents needed help with recruiting, for various reasons- lack of knowledge, lack of time, lack of confidence, or their teenager was not heeding their advice. Stacey would be approached by parents at the gym or at the baseball field, always with a similar message: “My son/daughter wants to continue their sport in college, but we are unsure what to do or how to help.” This inspired Stacey to create a recruiting advisory program, first for Bull City Gymnastics, but then soon found others reaching out to her from other local gyms. Wanting to be able to help out as many athletes and their families as possible, iAdvise College Recruiting was created!
